Mary Eleanor Fenstermaker Stuart, 90 Mary Eleanor Fenstermaker Stuart passed away on July 13, 2011. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, she was born on May 26, 1921 to J. Ralph and Wanda DeBra Fenstermaker. Mary Eleanor graduated from Tudor Hall School for Girls (now Park Tudor School) in 1939. She attended DePauw University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. She graduated from DePauw in 1943 with a degree in Sociology. She attended Indiana University School of Social Work. Following graduation from DePauw Mary Eleanor worked for the Office of Public Administration during World War II and for the Red Cross following the war. In 1947 she met Edinburgh, Scotland native, Alistair James Stuart. They were married on July 2, 1949. Following the birth of their daughter, Deborah, Mary Eleanor was a stay-at-home Mom until she resumed her life in social services as a School Social Worker in IPS. She served several schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1987. Mary Eleanor extended her involvement in service to several organizations in Indianapolis. r another she served on the boards of The Junior League of Indianapolis, The Visiting Nurse Association, the Rolling Ridge Neighborhood Association (which she founded), The Shepherd Center of Indianapolis, and the Tudor Hall School Alumnae Association. Mary Eleanor was a member of The Park Tudor Alumni Association, The Players, The Emergency Club, Fortnightly Club, the Junior League of Indianapolis and Northminster Presbyterian Church. Tennis was Mary Eleanor?s sport, and she enjoyed playing tennis several times a week until she was 79. Up until her death, she avidly followed the game. She often recalled her visit to Wimbledon as a highlight of her many trips abroad. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alistair J. Stuart, her parents, her brothers, Jack, Bill and Jim Fenstermaker, and niece Ann F. Olsen. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Stuart Everett (Chris), her brother Scott R. Fenstermaker (Sandy), nephews John R. Fenstermaker (Cecile), William B. Fenstermaker, Scott R. Fenstermaker, Jr., nieces Sally Fenstermaker, Cynthia F. Halsmer (Jim), Leslie F. Crist (Lee), Kate F. Fox (John) Alison F. Morrison (Mike), Mary Ann F. Oliver (Scott), 14 grand nieces and nephews and 4 great-grand nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank the staff of St. Vincent Hospice, and particularly the staff of Marquette Health Center, especially the 2nd floor staff, who so lovingly and thoughtfully cared for our mother, sister and aunt throughout her stay. The Marquette Health Center staff was incredibly attentive to the details of Mary Eleanor?s care, which never ceased to give us comfort. A Memorial Service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Blvd. E. Drive, on July 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Calling will be at the church beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the service in the gathering space.
