John Henry Carmody, 88, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side. John is survived by his sister Frances Tuohy, daughters Jeanne Carmody, Carol (Kevin) Harrell, Molly (Bill) Purcell, sons John Carmody, Philip (Norma) Carmody, Daniel (Erin) Carmody, and grandchildren Kevin and John Harrell and Kathleen, Laura and Theresa Carmody. John is preceded in death by his loving wife Martha, brother Philip, and parents John and Ruby. Born in Decatur Indiana in 1923, John was raised in Ft Wayne and moved to Indianapolis where he attended Shortridge High School. John?s college attendance at Saint Joseph?s was interrupted by his military service to his country in WW II. Corporal John Carmody served with US Army in Europe. John returned from Germany in 1945 knowing that he had left his dear brother Phil behind, a casualty of the battle of Bastion. After his return, John resumed his studies receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Indiana University in 1951. fe of 55 years Martha, John enjoyed the company of his friends and family, an enduring faith, a good laugh aloud, and destinations less travelled. John was a friend of Boy Scout Troop 174, the Serra Club, St Luke Catholic Church, and all of those fortunate enough to cross his path. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church with visitation prior from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. also at St. Luke.
