Charlene Lammers Tompkins, 81, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Born June 23, 1930, she was a sister to Martin W. Lammers,Jr., and daughter of Martin William and Ruth Poe Lammers.
A 1947 graduate of Shortridge High School, she was an Early Childhood Development major and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority member at Purdue. After graduation (1951), she married Stewart D. Tompkins and began working at L.S. Ayres and Company. Together 58 years, Char and Stew raised four children. Both served in several service organizations.
They enjoyed IU, Purdue, Bengals and Colts ballgames, playing tennis, riding bikes, Indy car racing, traveling, Lake Wawasee and East Lake Woodland vacations.
Charlene was described as ?such a lady?. She was a friend, wife, confidant, gentle mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A widow, she is survived by her daughter, Debra (Vance) Webb, grandchildren, Michael, Adam and Kenny, and great grandchildren Amber and Daniel Webb; son, Douglas (Carrie) Tompkins, granddaughters, Molly and Meg; son, David C. Tompkins; and daughter, Susan (Jeff) Prange, and grandsons, Steven and Cade Prange.
