Indianapolis: Barbara Marion Wilson Heckman, 83, died peacefully at Marquette Manor on Friday, June 8, 2012. Barbara was born on June 9, 1928 in Wilmington, DE to the late Roy Parker and Edith Carr Wilson. Barbara attended Drexel University and played for their tennis team. She worked at Methodist Hospital starting in 1973 as a Unit Secretary and retiring in 1995 as a Computer Programmer. She was a Master Gardener, a member of the Broad Ripple Garden Club, Green Space, and a member of the Daylily-Iris Society. She volunteered with Girl Scouts, the Salvation Army, various landscaping and gardening committees at Marquette Manor, and volunteered at the Gardens of The IMA. She was a member of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church. Barbara is survived by her loving children: Sue (Bruce) Psaty of Shoreline, WA; Rick (Lynn) Heckman of Carmel; Carl (Lauren) Heckman of Plainfield; and Julie Fitzpatrick of Lebanon; sister Betty (Carl) DeMartino of Hockessin, DE; sister-in-law Martha Heckman of Silver Spring, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. . Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 1605 E. 106th Street, Indianapolis, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Ireland officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Marquette Foundation, 8140 Township Line Road, Indianapolis or Salvation Army of Indianapolis, 3100 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, and/or the charity of your choice.
