Indianapolis: James E. Bowers, 66, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012. Jim was born on October 20, 1945 in Indianapolis to the late Clyde and Anna Catherine (Leppert) Bowers. Jim is a graduate of Cathedral High School. He attended The University of Norte Dame where he lettered in wrestling. He also attended Indiana University and graduated from Xavier University. Jim was Owner and Chairman of the Board for Bowers Envelope Company for 43 years. His memberships include that of St. Simon Catholic Church, the Indianapolis Sailing Club, and Old Oaklandon Golf Club. Jim was the past president of The Envelope and Manufacturers Association. Jim also had memberships in Fort Myers, Florida, with St. Columbkille Catholic Church as well as the Gulf Harbour Yacht and Country Club. Jim was also involved with Enduro go-cart racing and was most proud of his 56-consecutive years of attendance at the Indianapolis 500. Jim is survived by his wife Helen (Schweitzer) Bowers; his children: Heather Bowers-Deneef and Daniel Bowers (Robyn); step-children: Heather Stowell (Jon) and Stephen Hurst, Jr. (Casey); brother Thomas R. Visitation will be on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at St. Pius X, at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Farrell officiating.
