William C. Hurst, 77, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 21. He was born on February 8, 1938 in Indianapolis, son of Needham King and Martha Slade Hurst. He owned the N.K. Hurst Company in Indianapolis. A 1955 graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Bill attended Indiana University earning a B.S. in business with High Distinction in 1959. At IU Bill served as president of his Beta Theta Pi fraternity pledge class, as fraternity Scholarship Chairman and was a member of the business honorary Beta Gamma Sigma. After college he was commissioned in the U. S. Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Bill served his community actively through the years as a member of Kiwanis, the Board of Young Audiences, the Indianapolis Zoo Collections Committee, the Washington Township School Board Member Selection Committee, Gyro, Williams Creek Town Board, IU Presidents Circle and the Eiteljorg Museum Board of Trustees. Bill loved spending summers at Lake Wawasee teaching his children and then his grandchildren to waterski. sident. He belonged to Meridian Street United Methodist Church and attended the North Naples United Methodist Church during winters spent in Bonita Springs, Florida. At Meridian Street Bill served both as a Trustee and as a member of the Administrative Board. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosalie S. Hurst; daughter Betsy Hirschman, her husband Scott and their children Michael, Sarah and Will; daughter Amy Snider, her husband Tony and their children Megan, Melissa and Zack; son Jim Hurst, his wife Maggie and their children Jake and Hailey; and brother Needham S. Hurst and his wife Mary Lou. The family would like to thank Dr. Nancy Branyas, Dr Craig Cieciura, St Vincent Hospice as well as Senior 1 Care for their care and concern. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 pm at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis. Family and friends will gather on Friday, March 27 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th St., Indianapolis.
