William Douglas Sare
William D. Sare, age 87, passed away on January 12, 2014. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana on January 15, 1926. He was one of four sons of Ruby (Koontz) Sare and Bert H. Sare. Mr. Sare graduated from Bloomington High School in 1944. The World War II draft placed him in the Army Air Corp Communications. He served Uncle Sam for 28 months and crossed two big ponds going west. His duty stations were India, Saudi Arabia, and North Africa. Mr. Sare arrived back in the U.S. in November of 1946. He married and had one stepson, one son, and one daughter. Under the GI Training Bill, Mr. Sare entered the dry cleaning business until 1958. He then went to work for Allison Gas Turbine, a division of General Motors. He enjoyed this job and the people until he retired in 1981. Influenced by Allison employees and a U.S. Government Inspector, Mr. Sare joined the Air Force Reserve from 1963 until his retirement in 1986. A friend and co-worker at Allisons suggested that Mr. Sare should meet that special person. That someone was the most charming lady named Helen. rmed as well. The 36 years with Helen were the most wonderful years of his life. He lost Helen to the Good Lord on April 7, 2006. Each night he said "good night hon, I love you" and went to bed with a damp pillow case. Mr. Sare was a member of Irvington Presbyterian Church, The American Legion, V.F.W., and the World War II Roundtable of Indianapolis, He is survived by 3 brothers, 3 children, 3 stepchildren, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren.
