MUSCATINE, Iowa - James L. Bacon, 71, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016, at Trinity Hospital - Rock Island.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Kent Cemetery in Brooklyn, Iowa. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com
James was born on December 18, 1944, in Cedar Falls, the son of Leo and Lillian Lippincott Bacon.
He was US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War from May 25, 1967 until May 25, 1969. He received a Purple Heart Medal, a Bronze Star, a National Defense Medal, and received proficiency medals for machine gun and rifle, and a commendation from President Richard Nixon for valor on the battlefield.
He was a semi-truck driver owner/operator, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, driving his semi, and loved his dog, Fancy.
