He was a member of the Henry County Medical Society and the Des Moines County Medical Society. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in New London and on the New London City Council. He was a life member of the Donald Wasson VFW post 7641 in New London and also the National Wild Turkey Federation. Dr. Readinger was an outdoorsman enjoying gardening, yardwork, chopping wood, hunting, fishing and tending his beloved roses. He enjoyed canoe trips with his family to the Boundary Waters and elk hunting in Wyoming. He was always interested in conservation, a lover of the land. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and attended games until his health declined and a diehard Cubs fan. Dr. Readinger is survived by sons; Dr. Steven (Niki) of Mt. Pleasant, Randy (Edie) of Ft. Madison, and Chip (Dana) of Burlington; one daughter, Rhonda (David) Mixon of New London and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter-in-law Marcia Readinger and son-in-law Joe Miller; sisters, Ruth, Edna and Jessie; brothers Milton, Earl, Victor, Ivan, Harvey, Max, Chester, Ralph and Eugene. The funeral service for Dr. H.M. Readinger will be held Friday, May 27 at 11:00 am at Elliott Chapel in New London. Officiants will be Pastor Kathleen Moore, Pastor Rod Cooper and Reverend David Mixon. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday May 26 with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Burial will be at Burge Cemetery, rural New London. The family would prefer memorials to New London United Methodist Church, H.J. Nugen Library and New London Dollars for Scholars.
