William "Bill" Rodder

OREGON-William "Bill" Rodder passed away peacefully on July 5, 2016 at Alden Estates in Jefferson WI after a prolonged illness. Bill was born September 27, 1939 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of William and Louise (Fletchner) Rodder. Following graduation from Poland High School (1957) he earned a B. A. degree (Phi Beta Kappa) in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh (1961). He enlisted in the United States Navy and on completion of Officer Training School at Newport RI served on the aircraft carrier USS Independence and later on a river boat stationed in Vietnam (1962 - 1967). Bill had a lifelong love of music, studied formally for 12 years and was an accomplished pianist and organist. He was also fascinated by Far Eastern religions and studied for many years under the Yoga Master, Walt Baptiste of San Francisco. Bill loved cooking and while studying at the Baptiste Health & Fitness Center, he managed their colorful restaurant, the Hungry Mouth. the Madison WI VA. Bill is remembered for his compassion toward others and his unique loving nature. He touched many lives. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sister Caroline (Jim) Liedtke and her two children, Laura Liedtke and Eric (Kathi) Liedtke. A private family service is planned. The family particularly wishes to thank the Community Support Program and Home Based Primary Care Team of the Madison WI VA for their professional expertise and many, many kindnesses afforded Bill. The family also wishes to thank the staff at both Sienna Crest Assisted Living and Alden Estates for their loving care and attention. The family suggests gifts in Bill's name may be made to either of his favorite charities, Children International and the American Leprosy Mission.
