Billie R. West, 86, of Carmel, passed away July 19, 2016. Billie was born November 30, 1929 in Clay County, Indiana to the late Ira and Olive(Puckett) West. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kathy (Oberholtzer) West; three sons, Mark(Ann) West, Frank(Beth) West, Phil West; grandchildren, Stephen(Ally) West, Emily(Keegan) Dunn, Jacob(Kelsi) West, Abigail West, Elizabeth West, and Mary West; great grandchildren, Ivey and Samson; brothers and sisters, Ronnie(Ada) West, Donnie(Sharon) West, Linda(Deryl) Swain; and sister - in- law Lynn West. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack West, Jo Belle Field, Tommie West, and Frank West. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.
Billie was naturally curious and inquisitive and was at heart a teacher. His experiences in Korea crystalized his world view and led him to belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus was the foundation of his love for family and his fellow man. Volunteer work with Korean children during the war was his springboard for pursuing vocational teaching.
