He was born November 24, 1926 in Henry County to John and Ruth Beattie Garrels. He married Lucille Shelangoski December 8, 1990 in New London. She died December 24, 2012. Miles graduated from New London High School. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant American Legion. He was a lifelong member of the New London United Methodist Church.
He worked at GE in Burlington, as a farmer, owned and operated many rental properties and started Garrels Subdivision, rural New London. Miles loved woodworking and made many items in his lifetime. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Fanny watching the birds over the pond.
Miles is survived by step-daughters Deb Burchett, New London and Dee (Bruce) Franke, Fairfield; seven grandchildren; Mark Rounds, Angie Rounds, Kyle Wilson, Jake Burchett, Molly Burchett, Sara McDade and Luke Townsend, ten great grandchildren, and his brother Irwin (Helen) Garrels, Danville. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son Ken Garrels, his daughter Judy Rounds and an infant son, Dean.

n. Pastor Jeff McPheron will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Burge Cemetery, rural New London with military rites conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.
