Helen Elizabeth Nye, 89, of Montrose, Iowa, passed away on August 11, 2016 at Ft. Madison Community Hospital. She was born on January 3, 1927 in Dumas, Missouri to Herman Stopes and Emma (Sapp) Garcia. She married Jack Hall when she was 13 years old. They later divorced. During their marriage they had three sons, Donald, Jack, and George, who died as an infant. Helen later married Frank Jacob Skinner. They had one daughter, Leona Mae. He preceded Helen in April, 1965. In 1968, she married Ralph Nye. He preceded her in 1985. Helen lived most of her life in the Keokuk area where she worked as a homemaker. She lived in Metamora, Illinois for 35 years, during which time she also volunteered in nursing homes in the Peoria, Illinois area. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of Church of New Beginnings where she enjoyed visiting with other church members. Helen is survived by her son, Donald (Judy) Skinner, of Montrose, IA; her daughter Leona "Noni" (Larry) Husband of Mendota, IL; seven grandchildren, Terri (Kurtus) Miller, Kimberly (Michael) Phillips, Donald W. dren; ten great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margie (Jim) Crabtree, Viola Miller, Imogene Allaby, and Georgia Meyers; and her brothers, Tom (Carol) Rossi, and George Rossi. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, her sons George and Jack, and two great-grandchildren. Services celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 17, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center on 917 Blondeau Street, with Rev. Floyd Robert Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Meeks Cemetery, Vincennes, IA. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday, August 17. Memorials in her honor may be made to Lee County Hospice Program.
