Born: January 9, 1947
Passed: August 11, 2016
Funeral Home: Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services
Paul (Babe) R. Tronio, age 69, of Holiday City, Berkeley Township, died on Thursday, August 11 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Newark, he lived in Belleville most of his life before moving to West Paterson. He settled in Holiday City in 2000 because he loved being by the Jersey Shore. As a teenager, Paul enjoyed mechanical drawing and wanted to pursue that until his Uncle Kirk who owned a butcher shop brought him in to his shop one day. He was fascinated with the knowledge that his Uncle had and jumped at the chance to learn this skill. He worked as a butcher and then a meat manager for over 50 years, retiring from full time employment in 2006. He later worked for Lasola's Market, Lavalette during the summer months and he really was in his element there. He had a very special relationship with his employers and he couldn't wait for May each year to come around. He loved the Jersey Shore. It was where he spent every vacation with his children while they were growing up. He was blessed to own a boat for many years. He loved taking out both family and friends each weekend but his greatest pleasure with the boat was to go out into the bay and hang ...[more]

the swim platform to try and catch crabs with his family and to let his grandson Jimmy sit with him on the flying bridge and steer the boat in the Bay. Even after he gave up the boat, he continued to teach each one of his grandchildren how to crab and spent many mornings with his grandchildren crabbing off the docks in Seaside. He was a US Army veteran, and as a young man enjoyed bowling and was good enough to win some tournaments. His friends could attest that he was always there with a joke to tell and he had a quick wit that always amazed Jesse. Even during his last few days, he would make jokes with the nurses who cared for him. Every person created by a Loving God is unique and wants to leave a legacy/a mark. For Paul, it was his extreme love for his family, especially his grandchildren. It was his love and passion for them that drove him to keep fighting when his body was being ravaged by this horrible disease once again. When someone you love passes, only the most shining characteristics of our loved ones should make it into the version of them that we keep with us when they depart. His family hopes that it will be that way for all who knew and loved Paul (Babe). He is survived by his wife, Janice (Jesse); his three children, Dawn Capadona and her husband Michael of Old Bridge, Paul J. Tronio and his wife Mary Ellen of Manchester, and Robert Tronio and his wife Ashley of Brick; his sister, Nancy Guntner and her husband Don of Sparta; and six grandchildren; James and Danniella Marie Capadona, Justin, Jason, Sarah and Nicholas Tronio. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9-12:30pm at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. Funeral Service will be offered at 12:30 pm at the funeral home, with interment following at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital where a tribute page has been set up (Paul Tronio Tribute) or to Life Today for their Water for Life Project (lifetoday.org)
