John J. Vites passed away on August 24, 2016, just weeks after celebrating his 83rd birthday. He had a vibrant personality and was someone who loved life and touched everyone's heart that he met.
John was born in a small mountain village in southern Greece and came to America arriving all alone at Ellis Island at the age of 14. He spent his youth in south Chicago. After serving in the Navy for two years aboard the aircraft carrier Tarawa, he married his wife, Voula, of 56 years. They have 2 children, Tony and Kathy. John moved his family to Hollywood, Florida, in 1970 and established a successful jewelry store business that lasted over 20 years in the Hollywood Fashion Center.
John enjoyed being a grandfather, "Pappou", to Eric, Catherine and Laura and attended almost every event in his grandchildren's lives, including recitals, plays, softball, volleyball, flag football and soccer games.
John enjoyed playing cards and was often seen at the Hard Rock and Mardi Gras casinos. He will always be remembered for his strong handshakes, BIG Bear HUGS and kisses, his smile and his always cheerful disposition.
He will be truly missed. May his memory by eternal!
