Anna J. Coppes

Anna J. Coppes, 86, of Burlington, died Friday, September 2, 2016 at her home. Born November 10, 1929, she was the daughter of Edward and Emma Pruismann of Webster City, IA. She married Elwood McChesney, they divorced. On December 1, 1957, she married Cecil "Runt Coppes at The Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death, July 1, 1971. Anna was baptized and followed the Lutheran faith. She had been employed at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Sterzing's Potato Chip Factory and retired from Federal Mogul/Champion Spark Plug, December 1993. Throughout her life she enjoyed many activities; bowling, gardening, cooking, canning and sewing. She liked reading books, playing cards and working a good puzzle. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her cats. She liked the Pittsburg Steelers and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. nephews and special caregiver MaryAnn Burford. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Darlene Dighton and son, Mike McChesney. Anna was loved by many. Her smile, laughter and hugs will be missed greatly. The funeral service for Anna will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Scott Collier will officiate. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
