Mr. Gene Leslie McAlister, 82, of Danville died at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Great River Medical Center Emergency Department. Born May 30, 1934 in Riverton, he was the son of William A. and Grace (Richie) McAlister. On May 6, 1955 he married Norma Sinner in Council Bluffs. Mr. McAlister was a 1952 graduate of Atlantic, Iowa High School. He was a truck driver for 30 years, driving for several local trucking firms. In addition, he drove a school bus for Danville School for 10 years and worked in maintenance for F&M Bank for five years. Mr. McAlister was an active member of Teamsters Union Local 218, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 150, and the National Rifle Association. Mr. McAlister was an outdoorsman and absolutely loved hunting, fishing, and mushroom and arrow head hunting. He also was an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their activities. ster of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Shirley, Maxine and Darlene. Friends may call from noon until 7 p.m. Friday, September 16th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. McAlister will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17th, with the Rev. Jeremy Hess officiating. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville. A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Humane Society.
