Our beloved relative and friend extraordinaire, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 25, 2004. Tom was born August 6, 1905 in Lead, South Dakota to Anthony and Hannah Friskey Dean. Tom always was grateful to the Friskey family who raised him along with his sister, Mary Dean and brother, Bud Harold Dean following the early deaths of his parents. Tom graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington and shortly thereafter met his beautiful bride-to-be, Ida M. Heinz. Tom and Ida were married in 1929 and treasured their time and love together until she passed away in March, 1994. Tom and Ida were dedicated to their community, church, business, family and friends so the passage "May the Work I've Done Speak for Me" truly represents their legacy. During World War II Tom served as Chief Yeoman in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign from 1943-1945, receiving the Bronze Star, and was decorated with the Philippine-Liberation campaign Ribbon. He was the co-founder of the North Idaho Medical Service Bureau in Lewiston, Idaho, from 1946-1947 to ensure post-war families in that community and region received quality medical care through ins...[more]

He was co-founder of the First Hill Improvement Club in 1963 to ensure that the business and hospitals had adequate access to the adjoining communities when the building of Interstate 5 bi-sected the city. He represented the First Hill area before the City Council for rezoning to ensure future medical facility growth. As an Ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church USA Tom supported the early dreams and vision of First Presbyterian Church being "A Spiritual Home at the Heart of the City". Tom was co-founder of the First Hill Association that erected the First Hill Clock in December, 1986 in memory of the people and businesses that created and enriched the First Hill community. Tom and Ida had a thriving business, T. V. Dean Real Estate, on First Hill from 1959 until he retired at age 91 in 1997. He always will be loved and missed by his wonderful relatives, care providers, nurses, and devoted friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his family: Renee Heinz, Joan Johnson, and Janet Lane and their families. Funeral service 1 PM, Thursday, July 29th at First Presbyterian Church of Seattle on 8th & Madison.
