All about Grandma Nona Nona Margarette Barker was born to Ernest Gustav Hardtke and Tressie Odessie Clifton on September 24,1928 in Ingomar Montana. Nona grew up in the area surrounding Billings Montana. After graduating from high school, on April 17, 1947 Nona married Beryl Jeffers Barker II. They then moved to the Seattle area where together they had 7 children. The family was raised primarily in Lake Forrest Park. She loved her family and all 60+ foster children she cared for as a foster mother. Nona was considered a pioneer in Washington State for children in the foster care program. At one time in a Seattle Times story they designated her as the "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe". Nona was delighted with the article other than the reference to the "old" woman. During her active years she became one of the earliest employees of the 7-11 Corporation. Managing the first 7-11 store in Lake Forrest Park. Eventually managing fourteen 7-11 stores in the greater Seattle area. She loved Nature, beach combing, and was an avid agate hunter. She also enjoyed movies, reading, and puzzles. es were beaches. Many summers she would pack up all of her children and take them to Decatur Island in the San Juan's. She always had a sense of humor. She loved the Lord, enjoyed life to the fullest, and will always be greatly missed by all who knew her. Nona now joins her father, Ernest Hardtke, Mother, Tressie Hardtke, her two brothers Ernest "Happy" Hardtke, and Clifton Hardtke. Along with her two children Dara Barker and Jeffers "Squeak" Barker and his wife Joy Barker. She will be dearly missed by her surviving sons and daughters Jack (Linda] Barker, Forrest Scott (Diana) Barker, Cotty (Ted) Freymuth, Robin Barker, and Kandyce (Brian) Hansen. Also missed by her 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Celebrationof Life service was held Monday August 13, 2012 at 4:OOPM at New View Church. 8028 272nd ST NW Stanwood, WA 98292. The family would like to give a sincere thanks to University Lions Club of Seattle youth camp Camano Island for graciously allowing Nona to reside with her daughter Robin Barker. Also a deep thanks to Josephine's Skilled Nursing Facility in Stanwood and Providence Hospital in Everett. Nona left to be with the Lord on July 31st, 2012
