Andrew Renville Chin

Born: December 31, 1969
Passed: December 31, 1969
Funeral Home: Evergreen Washelli
Andrew R. Chin was born June 3, 1962 in London, England to Syble E. Campbell and Carlston R. Chin. He lived in the London area until he was three years of age when he left with his younger sister, Carole, and father on a ship to Jamaica, West Indies. Later, his mother joined them.

At the age of seven, Andrew moved to the United States to the Brooklyn, N.Y. area and attended St. Rita Catholic School. He picked up the violin and piano, and in the fourth grade he won second place in the State of New York in the science and art category. It was evident that he was very gifted on the verge of genius in his early years despite missing much school due to extreme asthma.

Andrew moved to Long Island, N.Y. when he was sixteen and attended Brentwood High School. It was then that he came out of his ?shell? and became active in R.O.T.C., marching band, and chorus. His advanced intellectual ability landed him an early graduation where he then ventured to college at the University of Wisconsin. He also, attended Stony Brook University in N.Y., University of Rhode Island, and Harvard University. He was highly educated and obtained various degrees.

drew?s professional career and humanitarian ways lead him throughout the United States lecturing, educating, advocating, and consulting. He is responsible for forming many charities and fund-raising for non-profit organizations. He lived in Albany for several years and was active in politics and lobbying.

Around 1995, Andrew settled in Rhode Island for approximately nine years. During his time there he took teenage twin boys, John and Jamie, on as his own. His loving nature could not let the siblings be separated or put through the foster system. Andrew put John and Jamie through private education where the boys developed into mature men and by example they followed the path Andrew set for them and gave back to their country by serving in the Armed Forces. One of the twins fathered a child and Andrew was ecstatic to be a ?grandfather?. Currently, the twin boys are stationed in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

A life altering experience occurred when a close friend of Andrew?s passed away unexpectedly, in New York. Andrew traveled to New York to attend the services of his friend and had the realization that life was short and he wanted to live his life to his fullest potential. Throughout his travels, Andrew had visited Seattle and enjoyed his experiences there. This epiphany sent Andrew on a new journey to a place he desired, Seattle, in 2004 where he relocated with the assistance of his mother. He had traveled throughout the United States, but felt at home and embraced the Seattle area most. He went back to his roots to focus on what made him happy. A career in interior design consulting was an enjoyable experience as he was talented in so many ways. His hobbies included, but are not limited to: writing, painting, reading, and volunteering. He was an avid dog lover and they meant everything to him.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2007 at his Seattle residence. He will be greatly missed by all who know him. He is survived by his mother, Syble Chin; father, Carlston Chin; sister, Carole Chin; ?children?? John and Jamie; one ?grandson?, Peter; two dogs, Toby and Tequila; and many loving extended family and friends.

ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8
To everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted,
A time to kill and a time to heal,
A time to break down and a time to build up,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together,
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
A time to get and a time to lose,
A time to keep and a time to cast away,
A time to rend and a time to sew,
A time to keep silence and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate,
A time for war and a time for peace.

ROMANS 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

An Indian Prayer He often read

O GREAT SPIRIT,
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.
LET ME WALK IN BEAUTY, and make my eyes ever behold the red & purple sunset.
MAKE MY HANDS respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
MAKE ME WISE so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
LET ME LEARN the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I SEEK STRENGTH, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
MAKE ME ALWAYS READY to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
SO WHEN LIFE FADES, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

I notice I have moments when I'm able to laught at my weaknesses and short-comings. I wonder what this means. It's as if I'm saying yes this is me!

Why is it so
Traveling to find myself
Going away to appreciate what's left behind

~ Andrew Chin, September 11, 1996
When I travel I am often compelled to record my observation both external and internal. My power of observation seems sharper. Time is overwhelming, standing still and not enough of it.
