Gene was born the 7th of 9 children in a large catholic family. His childhood years were lived on the family farm in Minnesota. When World War II started, the family moved to California, where he and several of his siblings built planes for North American Aircraft. Gene joined the Navy in 1944, and saw action in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. During his navy years he was stationed mostly on the east coast, Europe, and Bermuda. While in Germany, he met and married Regina, his wife of 56+ years. Two years later, their son Ron was born. After 30 years of honorable military service, Gene retired to Seattle. His favorite pastimes were golf, bowling and crosswords. After joining St. John Vianney parish, ?Grampa Gene? participated with joy in many youth mission trips, served as the groundskeeper for many years, and helped out wherever and whenever he could. Shortly after his 81st birthday, our Lord called him home. He will be missed by all the lives he has touched until we meet him again in heaven.[more]
