January 18, 1927 – November 22, 2008
Our loving father passed away at the age of 81, leaving an empty place in our hearts and at the head of our family table. He was a model of what a man, husband and daddy should be in every sense of those words.

Born in Everett, WA to Ralph R. and Elizabeth D. Byers, he spent his youth at Haller Lake. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday and so missed graduating with his class at Lincoln HS. He fought on Guadalcanal and was part of the liberating force in China. He returned to Seattle to complete HS and enrolled at the University of Washington. He and the former Barbara Reed Aiken were married on June 17, 1950. Upon return from their honeymoon he was called to serve again, this time in Korea.

Dick completed his degree at the UW in 1953 and started his career in the Insurance industry. He worked for General Insurance, Safeco, American States and WestPac and ended his career as a Special Risk Property Underwriter with Great American Insurance Company. rbara's death in 2001, Dick moved back to Seattle in 2003 to live out the rest of his years at "home".

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and William, and Barbara. He is survived by his children, Robin Mercer Island, WA and Richard Los Angeles, CA four grandchildren, Christian, Elizabeth, Lauren and Marissa, four nieces and a nephew. Rest well, daddy; the sun is always o're the yardarm now and you can play bridge anytime you want.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountlake Terrace Plaza, Stevens Hospital, Mountlake Terrace EMTs and Evergreen Hospice. Military services will be 2 pm Friday, November 28 in the Chapel of Evergreen-Washelli, 11111 Aurora Ave N. In lieu of flowers, please make remembrances to The American Heart Assoc.
