Joyce Genrich

Joyce Louise Genrich was born on February 14, 1928, in Irvington, Iowa, to John and Laura (Stumbo) Bockes. She started her education in a country school near Irvington, and later attended and graduated from LuVerne High School. On October 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to Stanley Arthur Genrich in Blue Earth, Minnesota. To this union, one son was born. The couple farmed near LuVerne, where Joyce enjoyed gardening and canning the bounty of her hard work. Joyce found enjoyment working in the LuVerne Corner Store. She worked there for nearly 13 years. At one point she also worked as a bookkeeper. Joyce enjoyed going to the old Thrasher Reunions in Mount Pleasant with Stanley. She also liked camping, attending her morning coffee group and baking, but her favorite thing was attending the grandchildren's activities. Joyce was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in LuVerne, taught Sunday school there, served as chairperson for the women's' circle and was in the 7 a.m. Wednesday prayer group. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 2012; parents John (Laura) Bockes; step-mother Nellie (Huff) Bockes; mother and father-in-law, Gladys and Albert Genrich; brother, Kenneth Bockes and sister, Kathryn (David) Morris.
