Edith Marian Hernan

Madison - Edith Marian Hernan, age 96, passed away after a short illness on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare. Edith was born to George and Elizabeth Dawes on April 10, 1920 in La Crosse. After graduating from Logan High School, she attended La Crosse State Teachers College where she received her teaching degree. Her first teaching position was in Richland Center, WI. It was there she met her future husband, Buford. They were married in 1943. Buford's jobs then took them to Olney, IL and then to Madison, where her teaching career at Mendota Elementary and Lindberg Elementary schools spanned over 30 years. She was active in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, enjoyed the normal love-hate relationship with golf, achieved significant skills in bridge and spent what 'extra' time she had in her flower gardens. However, her real joy was achieved by being a life-long advocate for her children and grandchildren. The visitation will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison on Friday, October 14th, 2016 at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon.
