Alice Heron Greenberg Ramer passed away on October 19, 2016. She is survived by her sons Marc and Nick and her grandchildren Noah and Samantha. She passed quickly, with minimal discomfort, while holding hands with loved ones.
Alice was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in May, 1940. She spent her youth in Bethlehem and attended Moravian College in town. She married Dr. Richard Ramer and relocated to Gainesville, Florida, where she thrived as a member of a vibrant, bohemian community. She spent her days raising Marc and Nick and volunteering at Terwilligar Elementary, which Marc and Nick attended.
She then remarried and moved to Miami, where she worked as a bookkeeper for a local accountant and continued to raise her boys. As Marc entered college, she became a core member of her local AA chapter and soon began sponsoring other AA members in need of guidance and support. This is where Alice found her true calling in the world--helping others along a difficult path, being gentle and loving when needed, but offering tough love when called for. Ultimately she affected many lives, doing the good work of Bill W and gaining the love and admiration of her many sponsees.
