Dr. Carl C. Amko
Dr. Carl C. Amko (74) of Plantation passed away unexpectedly on Oct 19, 2016. Born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1942, Carl was the sixth of nine children born to Yai Aemkopung and Karavaek Khiaokaeo. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers and two sisters. Carl graduated from medical school at Mahidol University in 1968 and came to America for his residency. He completed his surgical internship, surgical and cardio-thoracic residency at New Jersey Medical Center in 1976. Carl started his general surgery practice in Chamberlain, South Dakota. In1979, he moved his family and his practice to South Florida. He had a solo practice in General and Vascular surgery from 1979 to the present working exclusively at Broward General Medical Center (Broward Health). Carl is survived by his wife Mary of 25 years; six children Natacha, Jay, Wendy, May, Carl, and Tim; two granddaughters Grace and Danica; former wife Sandra; two sisters, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Bangkok. ten provided care to Thai patients for free and financially helped many start new businesses. He was a practicing Buddhist and a strong, regular supporter of the Thai Temple (Wat Buddharangsi of Miami) and the Thai American Association of South Florida. Carl was an outstanding physician, loving father, husband and friend. He will live forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Visitation is Monday, October 24th, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm at Fred Hunters 718 South Federal Highway Fort Lauderdale 33316.
A Cremation ceremony will take place at a later date.
