Leo Long, 93, of Burlington died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at Burlington Care Center. Born in 1923 in Wapello County, he was the son of George and Elsie Long. In 1944 he married Helen Hawkins in Davis County. She preceded him in death in 1979. Leo was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre at the rank of tech sergeant. He served from 1943 until 1946. Leo worked at J.I. Case Co. for 26 years. He was owner of Leo's Cycle Center (Leo's Yamaha) for 40 years. Leo and his family made lifelong friends through his business. He had a passion for riding motorcycles, snowmobiles and bicycles. He especially enjoyed racing motorcycles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Long of Burlington and Patty (Randy) Nordheim of Waukon; two grandchildren, Kris (Ben) Rausch and Blake Fosaaen; three great grandchildren, Lena, Theo and Jeremiah and one brother, Robert (Sue) Long of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Maxine Roberts and Faye Hawkins; and one brother, Donald Long. ceive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. The funeral service for Leo will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 28th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at IOOF Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Dave Roever Foundation. Dave Roever Foundation: Dave and his family have dedicated their lives to serve our Active Duty Military and our Veterans. Dave is a Vietnam Vet who was badly wounded...so he personally understands what our guys and gals sometimes deal with in their dedicated work to help keep America safe. Donations go directly to helping our Military and our Veterans.
