Honey Lou Smith, 87, of Tipton, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, while surrounded by all of her children at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Family and friends may gather on Sunday, November 27th from 2:00-5:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, for a time of visitation. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 28th at 10:30 am, also at Fry's. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials in Honey Lou's honor may be directed to the Tipton Senior Dining or Cedar County Public Health. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Honey Lou's life journey began on September 30, 1929 in Tipton, where she was born to Dewey and Myrtle (Turner) Osborn. She attended and graduated from Springdale High School with the class of 1949. She was united in marriage to the late Charles R. Smith, in West Des Moines, Iowa. Honey Lou was employed at Tipton Senior Dining for many years before her retirement. ! She also enjoyed decorating her house for the different seasons and holidays, cooking, sewing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Basketball. Honey Lou had a quick wit and a strong sense of humor, making it impossible to ever forget you had met her. Spending time with her family, in person or on the phone brought her the most joy. Honey Lou's last, proud and beautiful moment with her children was on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 when she was baptized at the University. Surviving Honey Lou are her eight children, Sandy Osborn of Iowa City, Sonja (Mike) Ray of Kimberling City, MO, Jackie Finnell of Iowa City, Linda (Scott) Foens of Marion, Craig Taylor of Las Vegas, Dale Taylor of Winterset, James (Brad Clinton) Kamerling of Cumming, Michael Smith of Iowa City; sister Pat McQuillen; brother Frank (Cris) Osborn; grandchildren, Angela, Chuck, Brandon, Nik, Sydnei, Fayde, Jacob, Daniel, Amber, Wendy, Dakota, Ashley, Sondra and Chloe; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Junior, Rod, Babe, Burt, Bud, Jerry; son Paul, daughter-in-law Deanna.
