ndon Chest Victoria Hospital, where she worked mainly in the care of patients who had open heart surgery, and those who had tuberculosis. In 1962 she returned to Jamaica, and was employed at Andrews Memorial Hospital, in Kingston where she worked for 23 years in the Outpatient Department as a head nurse. She also completed Advanced Nurse Management training at the University of The West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. She immigrated to the United States in October 1985 where she passed the nursing state board exam, and worked at Hialeah General Hospital, in the surgical unit for 14 years as a charge nurse. She retired from nursing in 2000. Byrl was united in marriage on December 20, 1964 to John Gilpin for nearly 52 years. From that union they had one special son, Andrew who has been the pride and joy of her heart and by whom she has established the continuation of her life. Byrl loved to play the piano at home and at church. She had been a church pianist at both Spanish Town & Maranatha SDA Churches, a choir director at Spanish Town Church, music critic, and had an appreciation for different styles of music. Byrl supported many causes including Christian education and church planting. She was instrumental in fundraising for the establishment of the Penmar SDA Church (currently called Saving Grace Church), her most popular items for sale being her Christmas fruit cake, carrot cake, and fried fish. She was a Seventh-day Adventist from birth, and knowing that she maintained a strong belief in the doctrine of the Resurrection, we are confident we will meet again in the New Jerusalem. Understanding her prognosis, she followed the advice found in James 5:14 and requested an anointing service by Pastor Reid and the elders. She surrendered her life into God's hand and was at peace. She will be truly missed; may her soul rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent as donations towards worthy students completing their education at her Alma Mater, Northern Caribbean University via the South Florida NCU Alumni Chapter. http://www.ncusouthflorida.com/donate/
