David B. Farlow

David B. Farlow, a long-time resident of North Port Florida, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2010. Born on September 24, 1940 in Rochester, New York, He graduated from West High School and then Syracuse University in 1962 where he played basketball and soccer. While a student at Syracuse University, David met Barbara Resseguie. They married after graduation in 1963 and resided in Fayetteville, New York. In 1970 David and Barbara took the chance of a lifetime and moved from upstate New York to St.Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to raising three children, Brian, Keith and Kristen in St. Croix, David engaged in a number of successful start-up ventures--including a movie theatre, a dairy import and distribution company, a restaurant and several ice cream shops. In 1986 David left the restaurant business temporarily and started a distribution company for beverage products which included his own private label-island energy drink. After the terrible destruction inflicted on St. Croix by Hurricane Hugo in 1989 Dave and Barbara rebuilt their home on St.Croix and decided to relocate to the safer lands of Florida in 1990. David eventually sold the restaurant in 2005; however, he did not leave restaurant business entirely because he lent a helping hand at his son's restaurant, Farlow's On The Water. David's infectious smile and story-telling expertise greatly warmed Farlow's On the Water. David's favorite hobby was boating with his loving wife Barbara. David and Barbara could often be found exploring and enjoying the beaches of Don Pedro. David made the world a better place and his passing will leave a hole in many hearts. He will be missed by all and remembered as a great friend by all those who had the privilege to get to know him. David Farlow is survived by his wife, Barbara Farlow, his son, daughter-in-law, and grand-daughters Brian, Jennifer, Francesca and Lillia Farlow in Dallas, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law Keith and Laurie Farlow in Englewood, Florida; and his daughter, Kristen Farlow, in Los Angles, California. A celebration of life service for David B. Farlow will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Lemon Bay Funeral Home.
