Robert E. "Bob" Denell, 78, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away September 27, 2010. He was born October 28, 1931 in Glen Echo, MD and moved to this area in 2000 from Mt Airy, MD. Formerly of Rockville, MD, he had worked as a mounted Police Officer with the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he had been a patrol Police Officer with the Montgomery County Police Dept. and a volunteer firefighter with the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. He served in the US Army and was a Korean War veteran. Bob was a member of the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, the Montgomery County Police Alumni Assoc., a past commander of the American Legion Post 191 in Mt Airy, a member of both the Elks and Moose Lodge and had enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast club of the Burnt Store Colony. He is survived by his children, William H. "Buzzy" (Patty) Denell; Robert K. "Bobby" (Alice) Denell, all of Damascus, MD and Linda S. (Gary) Macklin of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Robert "Robby" Denell, William "Willie" Denell, Kathleen "Katie" Denell and Christina D'Agostino; he was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild, due this December...[more]

e was pre deceased by his wife of 56 years, Harriett "Gina" Denell on July 4, 2009. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm till the service time of 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Bob loved his 38 years of retirement, in that spirit, it is requested that you attend Bob's service in "golf course casual". Inurnment with military honors will take place at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD, November 2010, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob's memory to the Maryland Police Benevolent Fund- Heroes Inc at heroes-inc.org.
