Lemon Bay Funeral Home Date: August 6, 2008 Sarasota County Francis E. Matherne, 84, of Englewood, FL, died peacefully Monday, August 4, 2008, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 9, 1923, in Bourg, LA, to Clairville and Nora Boquet Matherne, and was a brother to Hilda Breaux, Buster Matherne, Elaine Orgerondeceased, Ray Mathernedeceased, Lydia LeBlanc, Terry Matherne, Lorraine Fanguy, Marie LeBouef and Carolyn Matherne, all of Louisiana. Fran was raised in Bourg, LA, and graduated from Terrebonne Parrish High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served three years on the USS Savannah. He moved his family to Englewood in 1957 and acquired a home with cottages which became Maryan Court. With the help and support of his friends and family, Fran fulfilled a lifelong dream of building and owning the Cajun Club, one of Englewood's pioneer restaurants. He was a past Chief and Volunteer for the Englewood Fire Department, past President and Charter Member of Holy Name Society of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, lifetime member of Englewood Elks, Rotary Club and VFW and original member of Englewood Sports Club. his wife of 63 years, Maryan Matherne of Englewood; one son and four daughters - Nancy Dale Galvin, Ginny Matherne, Jerry Matherne, Mary Matherne, all of Englewood, and Renee Jon Kastor of Stockbridge, GA. He was blessed to be loved by ten grandchildren and their families - Gina Rick Haines, David Rachel Galvin, Deena Mike Van't Hul, Alicia Scott Morrison, Matthew Diane Matherne, Ryan Allison Birdsey, Abby Matherne, Amy Scott Benefield, Lee and Derek Kastor; and by fifteen great-grandchildren - Darren and Francis Haines; Garrett and Wade Galvin; Logan, Mitchell and Priscilla Van't Hul; Gaines, Keaton and Avery Morrison; Jena and Josh Gonsalves; Asher Birdsey; Savannah Matherne and Luke Stephens. Fran was a man whose life impacted everyone he met. We take comfort in the knowledge that through his family, he lives on in legacy - a legacy that he was surely proud of. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6PM to 8PM Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am Friday, August 8, 2008, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Englewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Loaves and Fishes International, Inc., 375 N.
