J.D. Powell

J.D. Powell, 74, of Punta Gorda, FL died January 25, 2009. He was born August 24, 1934 to Austin and Bertha Powell in Punta Gorda, FL where he lived all his life. J.D worked cattle for AC Frizzell and Doc McQueen for many years. He was the first dog catcher in Charlotte County and had also operated heavy equipment for D&M Construction till retiring in the late 80's. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Powell of Punta Gorda; son, Jay Judy Powell of Punta Gorda; daughter, Karen Todd Brown of Stephen's City, VA; step-daughter, Tammy Francois Morin of North Port, FL; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; a brother, Buddy Reba Powell of AL; sisters, Bessie Andreu and Edethel Strickland both of Punta Gorda, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm, Thursday January 29, 2009 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda.
