In Memoriam Matt O. Dotson Matt Otto Dotson, 92, died April 13, 2009, in Venice, Florida. He was born in Lima, Ohio, the son of Albert and Eva Dotson. Matt graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1939. In 1942, he married his college sweetheart, Sydney, in Denver, Colorado after joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. Serving throughout World War II, he later became a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Matt and Sydney were teachers for many years in Dearborn, Michigan where they raised their son and daughter. Matt taught Industrial Arts at Fordson High School, earned his Masters Degree from the University of Michigan and became Director of Technical Education at the Henry Ford Community College, where he was elected President of the Faculty Senate. His beloved alma mater, BGSU, selected him to be a member of its Alumni Board of Trustees. Retiring to Rotonda West, Florida in 1976, Matt and Sydney became pioneer members of Faith Lutheran Church, where Matt served as President and in many other leadership roles. Their dedicated and accomplished lives will be remembered and cherished by their daughter Virginia Dotson-Koch of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; son Richard and daughter-in-law Margery of Woodbridge, Virginia; granddaughter Erin Koch; grandsons Matthew Colleen, Timothy, and Brett Dotson, Jonathon Christine and Christopher Jillian Koch; as well as other family members and their many friends. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Matt's life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church, 531 Rotonda Blvd. West, Rotonda.
