Shirley A. Hellman

A funeral Mass for Shirley Hellman will be 11:00 AM Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Bancroft with Father Sunny Dominic officiating. Burial will be in Elmore, MN. Her family will greet friends from 9:30 AM Friday until time of Mass at the church. Shirley Anne (McCormick) Hellman was born May 28, 1931, to Fred and Gladys (Musselman) McCormick on a farm north of Elmore, MN. Shirley went to country school, then to Elmore High School. She attended Mankato State graduating with a Teachers Degree. She taught elementary school for 18 years at Bricelyn, MN, and Rake. On June 2, 1953, she married Darrell Dean Steenhard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and to this marriage four children were born. Darrell preceded her in death on October 22, 1974. On June 6, 1980, Shirley married Albert Andrew Hellman at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. Albert and Shirley lived and farmed south of Bancroft moving into town in 2001. Shirley enjoyed dancing, golfing, traveling, quilting, and reading. She also enjoyed volunteering with Hospice and at the Heritage Nursing Home. Shirley A. her husband of 36 years, Albert Hellman of Bancroft; four children, Dennis (Lorie) Steenhard of Elmore, MN, Lois Steenhard of Alameda, CA, Lona Steenhard of Alameda, CA, and David (Nan Ting) Steenhard of Louisville, KY; five granddaughters, Elizabeth Steenhard, Stephanie Dehmer, Arianna Gruber, Sabrina Gruber, and Elena Gruber; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob Olivo, Lily and Rose Dehmer, and Dakota Gruber. She is also survived by a brother Stanley (Pat) McCormick of Elmore, MN; nephews, Tory and Todd McCormick; a brother-in-law, Dennis Hellman of Burt, two sisters-in-law, Marie Recker of Algona and Lucille Hellman of Bancroft; and many other family members.
