worked with the Key Clubs in the Carmel area schools. He began substitute teaching at Westfield High School in chemistry classes, and eventually subbed in all the sciences, math, and history classes. He drew the line at phys ed, art, and French. He was one of the most frequently requested substitute teachers right up until his hospitalization. He was also active in Carmel's Citizens Emergency Response Team. John was a kind and friendly man, always willing to be of service and always ready with a joke or two. He was preceded in death by his parents, John S. Woods II and Dorothy(Lewis) Woods, and his first wife, Ruth(Lingo) Woods. John is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Christine(Griffin) Woods and her four children: Gerald Egleson, Steve Egleson, Daniel Egleson, and Elizabeth Egleson and their families. John was a loving and supportive part of their lives. John is survived by his son, John S. Woods IV, and his daughter, Catherine(Woods) Wertz and their families. John counted himself as having six children, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th Street, Carmel, Indiana.
