school. Eventually, he served as a radar specialist in the Pacific theater awaiting the invasion of Japan, which never happened. Jack returned home after the war and started work for AT&T/Longlines. He worked his way up from lineman to management, retiring in 1984 after 42 years of service. He met the love of his life, Margaret (nee Kelly) at a dance and they married on May 14, 1949. Jack and Margaret lived at 804 Hampshire Road in Drexel Hill for 50 years. Jack lovingly cared for his beloved wife as she suffered and died of lung cancer on April 9, 2000. They reared three children, Michael, Bernadette (Gentilcore) and Owen. God blessed Jack and Margaret with 8 granddaughters, Kelly Ward (Gentilcore), Sister Meaghan V. Patterson SSJ, Lauren Benante (nee Patterson), Bridget Welch (nee Patterson), Marianne Williams (nee Patterson), Grace Patterson, Jacqueline Patterson, and Claire Patterson and three great-great granddaughters, Julia Marie Benante, Emily Ann Benante and Aubrey Rose Welch and one great-grandson, Nicholas Scott Ward. Two years ago, Jack attended his 90th birthday party. It was a joyful celebration as Jack was surrounded by all his family which included his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and many nieces and nephews. We toasted Dad as the patriarch of our extended family. He happily raised his Manhattan filled Waterford glass with floating cherry and acknowledged his life well-lived. Jack was a volunteer for the AT&T Pioneers Service Club with his dear wife, Peggy. At Overbrook School for the Blind, Mom and Dad organized Easter egg hunts with beeping eggs. The Pioneers made Hug-a-Bears to comfort children during ambulance rides, and hospital stays. Peggy and Jack planned exciting activities like holiday parties, and gift giving for their "adopted" Head Start Class. Inglis House and Harlee Manor Nursing Home residents enjoyed playing Bingo and winning prizes with the Pioneers. Jack also volunteered for clerical work with Delaware County Memorial Hospital Cancer Center and Delaware County Hospice in memory of his Peggy. Dad's Pioneer friends would always comment, "Wherever you see Jack, you see Peggy!" So they honored our Mom with the title, "Pioneer Partner of the Year!" Dad loved his Peggy. Jack's greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Irish Manhattans, collecting Waterford Crystal, Flower arrangements for every holiday, and Horse Racing. He was a proud Marine. Dad loved his Peggy! God Bless You, Dad! We love you! We are happy that you are in Heaven with your Dear Peggy!!
