A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson, IA, with Pastor Judy Wozniak officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, also at the church. Interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. Eileen LaVonne Larson, the daughter of John and Maysil (Rydson) Gahan was born in Britt, Iowa, on June 24, 1927. In 1944 she won the Spelling Bee and graduated from Forest City High School. Following school, Eileen moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota with some girlfriends, where they found office jobs. On a trip back to the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA, she met a witty young man, named Carroll “Bud” Larson. The couple latter married on September 15, 1946, Mason City. Together they settled on a farm outside of Thompson, IA, and raised three children. Eileen supported her husband and always wanted the best for their children. was never afraid to speak her mind. She also enjoyed playing cards and telling family about her time as a young girl on the familys’ Apple orchard. Family was very important to her and would always remind her children to stay in touch. Eileen LaVonne Larson, 89, of Thompson, died, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Hancock County Hospital. She is survived by her children, Dave Larson of Phoenix, AZ, Carolyn (Brian) Cassidy of Three Forks, MT and Dan Larson his fiancé Kelly Pederson and her children, Alexys Pederson, Olivia Pederson and Benjamin Pederson of Thompson; grandchildren, Robin (Laramie) Heuser of Ames, Jeremy (Mandy Mikes) Tegland of Forest City, Travis (Krista) Tegland of Forest City, Alannah Larson and Reece Larson of Thompson; great-grandchildren, Ryker, Liam, Brodan, Barrett and Bria; brother, Don Gahan of Garner; sisters, Norma (Connie) Burgardt of Britt and Geraldine Hansmeier of Crystal Lake, as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll “Bud” Larson; granddaughter, Sydney Larson and a brother-in-law, Calvin Hansmeier.
