Gordon John Wirtjes

Gordon Wirtjes, age 77 of Lakota, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, MN. His funeral ceremony will be Thursday October 21, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa with Rev. Doug Van Der Pol officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Lakota. Visitation will be Wednesday October 20, 2010 at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard from 5 to 8 PM. Gordon John Wirtjes was born to William and Ada (Pannkuk) Wirtjes on the Hamilton Farm outside of Buffalo Center, IA on Marcy 26, 1933. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. In recent years, he had been attending Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, IA. Gordon was a church elder at both churches. On October 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Janice Ziegler-Mensing. He adopted her son Tim. Gordon and Janice were blessed with their son William. He was a farmer all of his life on a farm south of Lakota. Gordon enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
