rs at Curtis Wright Factory in Columbus, Ohio. He was transferred to Wold Chamberline Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he studied aircraft engines and hydraulics. He worked on CASV-B-2, PB4Y'S and F4U Corsair's serving out of Alameda, California until he was discharged at war's end. Al worked on the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad, retiring as an engineer after 37 years of service. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sioux City and the Elk Point American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. In later years he and Lois enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, square dancing, golfing, bowling and fishing. Those left to cherish their memories of Al include his wife of 74 years, Lois; 3 children, Fred Chartier and wife, Susan of Sioux City, Claudia Hanner and special friend, Richard Danielson of Lawton and John Chartier of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Harold Chartier of Sioux City; 1 brother-in-law, Lawrence Marquardt and wife, Alice of Gaza, Iowa; and numerous nieces nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Chartier and Beulah Begnoche Parmelee; son, Gale A. Chartier; great-granddaughter, Isabelle Nangreave; sisters, Stella Chartier Girard (Emil), Wilma Douglas Gereau (Gerald); brother, Elmer Chartier (Dollie Stout); sisters-in-law, Evelyn Girard Chartier, Lois Riehle Chartier and Viola Ruth Marquardt.
