ld was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. He had been active in many community organizations including serving as a coach and past president of the Maquoketa Youth Baseball program for many years. He also was a volunteer at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center in Maquoketa where he was instrumental in the building of it. Other organizations he was involved in were the Jackson County Tourism Council and Friends of the Maquoketa Caves. Donald enjoyed playing cards, making fudge at Christmas time for his kids, woodworking, going to all the shows at Ohnward, and traveling. He was family oriented and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Those left to honor Donald's memory include his children, Richard (Jerrie) Powlistha of Clinton, IA, Michael (Becky) Powlistha of Clinton, IA, Donna (Jerry) Gilbert of Antioch, IL and Lisa Battles Hinz of Maquoketa, IA; 5 grandchildren, Kristy Powlistha, Thomas James Gilbert, Matt Gilbert, Jacob Powlistha and Wyatt Hinz; 1 great-grandchild, Jeremiah James Gilbert; 2 step-grandchildren, Travis Sumpter and Zach Sumpter; and a brother-in-law, Willard "Bill" Woods of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Doris, brothers Robert, Charles and Gerald, a son Larry Lynn Battles, and his wife Linda.
