4, in Muscatine, the son of Norbert J. and Edna Eppel Oberhaus. John graduated from Muscatine Catholic High School, class of 1952 and farmed with his father until he was drafted into the Army. He was a US Army Veteran and was stationed in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met Lina Logsdor. After completing his military service they were united in marriage on November 27, 1958, in Kentucky. John brought his wife back to Iowa and they purchased a farm near Letts in Muscatine County, and started their family which grew to include four children. John was very civic minded and actively participated in the Lions Club and Farm Bureau where he served as past president; he was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish, the Cranston Card Club, and the NAPP. He was elected as a County Board Supervisor in November of 1994 and held that position for 12 years leaving the Board on December of 2006. He also served on the Mississippi Parkway Commission and was an active member of the Republican Party. As a lifelong farmer, John was extremely interested and involved with conservation. He left the world a better place than he found it, and he will be sorely missed by those fortunate enough to have met him. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lina Oberhaus of Muscatine; his children, Ann Van Sant and husband, Duane, of Des Moines, Chris Oberhaus and wife, Tenley, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Tony Oberhaus and wife, Jasmina, of Chicago, Illinois, and Joan Flanders and husband, Joe, of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Ann Oberhaus. He was preceded in death by his parents.
