Eugene "Gene" P. Brah, 85, of Winona passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
Eugene Patrick was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Col. Clarence and Loretto (Mitchell) Brah. He graduated from St. Thomas Cathedral High School, Milwaukee, in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 to 1955, during the Korean War, and attained the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, he attended Marquette University on the GI Bill. He became a police officer for the Milwaukee Police Department in 1961 and retired as detective in 1986.

as an Irishman. He had a good kind word for everyone. After retiring from the police department, he turned his attention to making furniture and doing upholstery for many years and enjoyed giving his work away. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; five children, John (Terri) Brah, Grafton, Wis., Terry (Dan) Berndt, Saukville, Wis., Michael (Kris) Brah, Grafton, Dan Brah, Hartford, Wis., Katie Brah, Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Ryan (Stacey), Aaron, Kelly, Kimberly, Steven and Nicholas; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kaleb, Julian, Amelia, Beck and Blaine; two brothers, Thomas (Twink) Brah and Jack Brah, all of Eagle River, Wis.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Sofia Ronn; a sister, Kathleen Brown; brother-in-law, Tom Brown; niece, Peggy Brown; and sister-in-law, Shirley Brah.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Church of Saint John Nepomucene, Winona, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiating. Interment will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Winona with military burial rites provided by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9.
