Mary Lou Krise left this world on Monday morning just as gracefully as she had moved within it. Born in Philadelphia in 1927 to Marjorie Boomer and Charles Henry Brandenburgh, Mary Lou lived up and down the east coast, from the Virgin Islands to New Hampshire, as the daughter of a career naval officer. The dangers of WWII led her father to move teenage Mary Lou, her two sisters, and her mother to Indiana for safety. Mary Lou attended Indiana University, pledged Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and worked in Indianapolis as a legal secretary for Sanders Law Offices. She met and married attorney Thomas H. Krise, a Phi Gamma Delta from I. U., in 1951. There followed three daughters, Susan E. (Pearson), Kathryn A. (Hopper), and Joan H. (Morris), all I.U. graduates themselves. The Krise family's shared alma mater became the source of many family friends and get-togethers. Mary Lou was a Girl Scout leader and member of Stansfield Circle, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Spring Mill School's first PTA. Her personal pursuits included tennis, yoga instruction, gardening, skiing, art appreciation, and decorating. With Tom and, later, on her own, Mary Lou was an intrepid and adventurous explorer, seeking new experiences from hot air balloon trips to camel rides in Egypt. Friends describe Mary Lou as an engaging conversationalist; gracious and sophisticated lady; and devoted friend, full of boundless energy undefined by age. Her children inherited her love of books, independent spirit, strength of character and sense of civic responsibility. Mary Lou's grandchildren cherished having her steadfast love, support, and encouragement throughout their lives. The family will celebrate her rich and vibrant life at a later date.
