arriage to Freeman "Red" Brothers in Dubuque in 1948. He preceded her in death, July 14, 1981, after 32 years. Dorothy was a hard worker and was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for over 30 years. Dorothy's faith and family were foremost in her life. She lived every day in prayer saying the rosary numerous times and attended mass whenever possible. Dorothy loved to travel and took many trips all over the U.S. with Sandy and Stacey. She was a competitive Euchre player and enjoyed Bingo. Dorothy loved to cook in her early years. Her fudge, barbeque and Italian Beef recipes are prized possessions for many of her granddaughters. She loved bright colored clothing, especially pink, and jewelry. You would never see Dorothy without jewelry, especially pins, rings, bracelets and painted nails. Stonehill was home to her and she was loved by staff, aides and nurses. She loved visitors, and always wanted her Stonehill friends to meet them, especially bragging on her grandchildren and "greats." Dorothy always had stuffed animals for any of her grandkids' visits (they were her Bingo winnings). She was always in charge of handing out Bingo cards and setting the table for lunch in her dining area. Dorothy never missed any Popcorn Day, Elvis Show or music event. Bird and squirrel watching was her favorite pastime, as her many feeders and birdbaths attest to outside her window. She loved the Cubs and her angel collection. Dorothy was a social butterfly, who was extremely active with several organizations throughout the years. She enjoyed phone calls with her friends and especially her daily calls from daughter Sandy and her nightly calls from Gail. She also loved her visits from her son, Orv, as he usually brought flowers, bird feed or ice cream. We have been truly blessed to have Dorothy with us for 97 years on her earthly journey. She continually strived to make the world a better place, and while we will miss her deeply, we take comfort in the fact that she is now reunited with all of her loved ones that have gone home ahead her.
