Slim died on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City from congestive heart disease. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of North English, six children: Kathy Warfield of Sigourney, Janean (Bob) Blake of Marion, John Holeton of South English, David (Laura) Holeton of North English, Susan Holeton of Sigourney and Kirk (Linda) Holeton of South English, 2 brothers, Cecil of Muscatine and Marvin (Kathy) of Oxford; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Byron, Otis and Wayne; two sisters: Leta Aggson and Manie Conaway; and his father-in-law; Leonard "Curly" Kirkpatrick.
