He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1954. While serving in the National Guard he served as a chauffeur for Herbert Hoover's funeral. He married Lavonne Spiering on July 9, 1960, in Gaylord, MN. During his life he worked at South Side Café, Eddy Paper Co. in Cedar Rapids, O'Neill Oil, Iowa County Farm Service, Ed's TV from 1970 to 1996. In 1996 he partnered with Mike Dellamuth and Karen Wichmann to form Iowa County Electronics and he retired in 2000. He was a life long resident of the Williamsburg community. He was a member of the WBCCI (Airstream Group) where he was president in 1996 and was an amateur Ham Radio Operator. Dennis died on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City from complications of cancer at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his wife Lavonne of Williamsburg; a sister: Audrey (Doug) Foubert of Deep River; sister-in-law: Charleen Reinke of Gaylord, MN; nephews: Scott (Stephanie) Foubert of Tracy, CA, Jason (Rita) Foubert, Montezuma, Jeremy (Lisa) Foubert of Carlisle, and Rev. John (Dacia) Reinke of Janesville, WI and a favorite niece Wanda (Jeff) Paine of Gaylord, MN; and numerous great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carole Rae Sandersfeld, an infant brother Dean Sandersfeld and a nephew Nathan Foubert. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Pastor Michael Kolesar will officiate. Burial will be held 9:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Lutheran Interparish School, Williamsburg Library and Iowa City Hospice.
