Ilo Mae Starry

Ilo Mae Starry, 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday morning, June 14, 2017, at her home in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of Ilo Mae's life will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 1 to 2 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, at a later date. Ilo Mae Simons was born on February 12, 1937 near Latimer, Iowa, to Carl Hunt and Lillian Pearl (Bullis) Simons. She was a graduate of Hampton High School. She married Richard Starry on December 23, 1956. He preceded her in death in 2004. In 2006, she met Albert Carter and they were together until his passing in December of 2016. Ilo Mae had worked various jobs throughout the years including as a day care provider, house cleaning, food service at several places including Garner High School, and as an office technician for a denist in Garner. ae's memory include her children, Barbara (Bob) Roe of Maquoketa, IA, and Shawn (Hope) Starry of Freeport, IL; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pat Simons of Iowa Falls and Lois Simons of Tennessee; and the extended family of Albert Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a daughter Nancy Starry Lewis, a granddaughter Carla Fadale, brothers Charles Simons and Carl "Alvin" Simons, and her longtime partner Albert Carter.
