ee with the boys and time spent with grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, Korah. On May 16, 1988, in Des Moines he received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Community Service. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Vicki (Robert) Branchini of Plainfield, Indiana; one son, Steve (Michelle) Thornburg of Bettendorf, Iowa; two sisters, Mary McKenzie and Rosezella Ford, both of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Patrick Branchini, Alyssa Thornburg and Logan Thornburg; one great-granddaughter, Korah Branchini; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Floyd, Melvin, Irvin, Rodney and Carl, and one grandson in infancy, Ryan Thornburg. The funeral service for Mr. Eugene Thornburg will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Danville. Pastors Steven Parker and Carl Vass will officiate. Military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard will be held at the church with interment at Blakeway Cemetery, rural Danville. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, New London with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 - 7:30 PM. Memorials have been established for Danville Congregational United Church of Christ and Danville Fire and Rescue.
