a busy household and raising three children, Lois went back to school and, at age 42, earned the high school diploma that she had never had the opportunity to obtain. After finishing first in her class, she began work as a tax preparer at the Schoenthaler Law Firm. Later Lois began work at Maquoketa State Bank where she was employed for many years. She was very proud of her work at MSB and made many friends there. She was also proud of her three sons, all of whom received the college education that she wanted them to have. Church was always at the center of Lois's life. First Lutheran Church was Lois and George's spiritual home, where they were active servants and leaders. Lois led Bible studies with her church friends until the time of her death. Lois's full life also included square dancing, horseshoe pitching, quilting, bridge, many fun times with her grandchildren and fabulous pie baking. She is survived by her three sons, David (Christine) of Janesville, WI, Alan (Judith Fletcher) of Havertown, PA, and Phillip (Jane Anderson) also of Janesville, WI ; eight grandchildren, Caroline (Graham Thorbrogger), Catherine, Madeleine, Peter, Andrew, Alexander, Henry and Charlie, and her great-granddaughter Maeve Eileen Thorbrogger. She is further survived by her double-cousin Shirley Harvey of Cedar Falls, her cousin John (Roberta) Felderman of Dandridge, TN, her brother-in-law Rollo (Janice) Moore of Algona, and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2013, her sister, Eleanor Griebel in 2015, and her brothers, Eldon and Herbert Hueneke. Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa Community Cupboard, Camp Courageous or the charity of the donor's choice.
